Expectations

Parent Expectations & Coach Expectations

Vancouver Minor is successful because families and volunteers work together. When parents stay involved and coaches step forward, players get the meaningful, fun, high-quality baseball season they deserve.

Parent Expectations

Stay involved beyond Little League

At Vancouver Minor, our programs start where most Little Leagues end — 13U and above. At this age range, parent involvement often drops off, especially in house leagues. But we want to remind families:

We are still a 100% volunteer-run association. Everything your child experiences — practices, games, scheduling, equipment, fields, jerseys, umpires, communication — relies on volunteers who give their time so kids can play baseball.

To keep delivering a great baseball experience, we ask parents to:

  • Stay involved and supportive, even as players become more independent.
  • Help where you can — field setup, scorekeeping, team coordination, or simply offering an extra set of hands.
  • Respond promptly to coaches’ emails or group messages.
  • Encourage your athlete to show up on time, communicate absences, and respect teammates and coaches.
  • Remember that effort matters more than results. We emphasize development, sportsmanship, and fun.

Your involvement directly lifts the quality of your athlete’s season.

Parent Coaches

Coach Expectations

Vancouver Minor relies heavily on parent coaches. Whether you have extensive baseball experience or you’re totally new to coaching, you can help — and we will support you.

Why parent coaches are essential

  • Without coaches, there are no teams.
  • The number of coaches determines how many teams we can field.
  • More coaches means smaller roster sizes, which means:
    • More playing time
    • More reps at practice
    • Faster development
    • More fun and engagement

What we expect from coaches

  • Create a positive, safe, and inclusive environment.
  • Communicate clearly with families.
  • Focus on development over winning.
  • Ensure fair playing opportunities.
  • Model respect for umpires, opponents, and teammates.
  • Promote effort, accountability, and sportsmanship.

What we provide to coaches

  • Coaching resources and practice plans
  • On-field support from coordinators
  • Clinics and development opportunities
  • A community of other parent coaches
  • Access to equipment and field bookings

If you’ve ever thought about coaching — even as an assistant — this is the best age to start. The kids benefit enormously from every parent who steps forward.

Together, we build the baseball experience. When parents stay involved and coaches step forward, players get the meaningful, fun, high-quality baseball season they deserve.
